Colorist Marie Robinson's 2009 Hair Trend Predictions

The new year is coming and you know what that means: it’s beauty resolution time! Soon some of us will be taken with irresistible desire for big changes, and hair will surely be one of the most popular features we’ll want revamped. Knowing this, WLB just had to consult Celebrity Stylemaker and colorist Marie Robinson for some of her 2009 hair predictions.
Overall, Marie believes hyper-highlights are about to be a thing of the past, citing the movement toward all-over color on the latest runways and celebs. She also thinks that the most popular cuts have a big effect too. “Hair cutting trends usually influence hair color trends and I have lots of favorites,” says Marie, who was kind enough to get specific:
Kate Moss: hair color & cut – Platinum Bob
“My personal favorite hair color and cut is Kate Moss. Kate's hair color is still a platinum bob, but it doesn't have the heavy fringe. This will influence fashion followers to be blonder than ever.”
Model Karen Elson: hair color – Copper Red
“I also love Karen Elson's hair color. I can only describe Karens' color as hyper copper red—it’s very unusual and not particularly natural looking. Karen is in so much advertising in the coming seasons, she will influence women to take a chance with this very special color. Already, many clients are tearing magazine pictures of her out and planning this big color change for themselves.”
Victoria Beckham: hair color & cut – Chocolate Brown Pixie
“She cut her hair into a choppy pixie style and colored it a chocolate brown. This look is my favorite on her. She is so edgy with fashion its nice to see beautiful glossy brown on her and not the kaleidoscope of caramel and blonde that she made popular last year. Women are opting for all over color like this chocolate brown to cover and gloss those dried up ends left over from the beachy look.”
And not only is Beckam to blame for the decline of the hyper-highlights trend, according to Marie the fledgling economy is also at fault: “I think the economy will also influence color trends as well as runways. 2009 runways had softer hairstyles long and short and the hair color was more all over with subtle variation instead of contrasting highlights. I think this will suit anyone going thru a hard time in this economy as it is definitely cheaper to do less or no high lights than more.”
Taylor Momsen: hair color & cut – Platinum Edgy Chop
“I love Taylor Momsen's hair right now—the platinum color and edgier hair cut make her stand-out on the show and on the red carpet. Teenagers and college girls alike are already asking for this look as a holiday treat or birthday present.”
