Behind the Scenes: Billy B, Syd Curry & Patricia Field Glamour Shoot

Behind the Scenes: Billy B, Syd Curry & Patricia Field Glamour Shoot

Two of our favorite Celebrity Stylemakers makeup artist Billy B and his best friend hairstylist, Syd Curry had the opportunity to work with the fabulous Patricia Field on a recent "Sex and the City" inspired Glamour Magazine photo shoot. Patricia Field is an Academy-Award-nominated fashion designer for the "Devil Wears Prada," and is most recognized for her work as costume designer on the HBO hit series (and soon to be movie) "Sex and the City". "For her work on SATC, Field was nominated for 5 Emmy Awards, with one win and nominated for 6 Costume Designers Guild Awards, with 4 wins." (Wikipedia). She is also the owner of her own boutique in NYC named "Patricia Field" - naturally. Billy and Syd gave us the inside scoop and all the behind the scenes details on the Field-styled Glamour Magazine shoot.

WLB: Tells us about your relationship with Patricia Field:
Billy B: "I have known Pat for a long time. I do the makeup for many of her shows in NYC. Pat is the most inspired stylist I have ever worked with. She breaks all the rules. That is the way she lives her life and its a dream come true for hair and makeup people."

Syd Curry: "Billy actually introduced me to Pat. The first time I met her was when I did her hair for last years Academy Awards where she wore her fire-red hair with a gorgeous bright red dress."

WLB: What was the concept behind the shoot for Glamour Magazine? And What was your inspiration for the hair and makeup?
Billy B: "The photo shoot was shot in NYC and was inspired by the show "Sex and the City." It was definitely a different kind of photo shoot for Glamour. It was "out-there" for Glamour. The shoot was inspired by the characters from the show, but in no way was trying to mimic the looks of the girls exactly. Pat is very specific about what she wants. Working with her is always amazing. I used full-on primary colors. Bright colors. I loved that I did a Crayola Orange lip on the red head model. How often can you use Crayola orange lipstick? It was so much fun."

WLB: What is your working relationship like? (Billy and Syd) How long have you being working together?
Billy B: "Syd and I are very close. Working together is always a blast."

Syd Curry: "Billy and I are best friends. We live near each other in Mississippi. And we have been working together for the past 20 years. We were with Mariah Carey for years. So, when we have the chance to work together we are always excited about it because its working with your best friend."

WLB: What was the energy like at the shoot?
Syd Curry: "Pat brought reference photos with her to the set for each person to review to fully get a grasp of her vision for the shoot. She wanted the curl on the blonde model to be more extreme then Carrie's curly hair on the show - bigger and more trampy. She brought everyone together during hair and makeup to discuss the goals for the shoot. She makes everyone feel very comfortable and it really became a team effort to create what she envisioned. The is no drama. No wishi-washiness. Pat is straight-forward and direct in her approach. And the vibrant, fun and fearless concept Pat brought to the shoot was right up my ally...its what I do best."

Thanks so much Billy and Syd for spending some time with us and filling us in on all the info on this very cool Glamour photo shoot. We will make sure to do a "Get the Look" article when the glossy is out on stands, so everyone can get the look too!
